I installed Ubuntu quite a while ago, it puts GRUB in the MasterBootRecord but now I need to get the Harddrive back to Windows 9x, ive tried formatting the harddrive via RedHat 8, and a few others, but they dont remove thngs from the MBR :pinch: Does anyone know how?

There is a linux utility that lets you do this, but I forget what it is. Download knoppix and google on how to do it.

Fdisk will not work. Try booting with your xp disc and going to recovery consol. then type fixmbr.

that doesn't always work either, you may have to do a recovery installation.

Delete all the partitions on the drive, then re-make them

Load your XP install CD, during the installation you can edit/delete/format partitions.
